Kamaruzzaman’s verdict copy sent to CJ

Staff Reporter :The draft copy of the verdict on review petition filed by Jamaat leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman has been sent to the Supreme Court’s Chief Justice SK Sinha for his ascent on it. The Justice, who prepared the draft copy, went to the residence of the Chief Justice with the copy on Tuesday After reviewing the draft copy, it will be sent to other judges for their review and the signatures. The Chief Justice will sign the copy finally after the signature of the three other judges.  After the signatures of all the judges therein, the copy will be sent to the jail authorities. The Dhaka Central Jail authorities said that they would execute the death penalty after getting the copy of the verdict.On Monday, the four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by the Chief Justice dismissed the review petition filed by Kamaruzzaman against the death penalty. The other judges are Justice AH Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, Justice Hasan Faiz Siddique and Justice M Abdul Wahab Miah. On May 9 in 2013, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 sentenced Kamaruzzaman to death for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971. Later, the SC upheld the ICT-2’s verdict. Kamaruzzaman sought review of the SC’s judgment.
