Kamaruzzaman buried at Sherpur

Sherpur Correspondent :Executed Jamaat-e-Islami leader and former Al Badr Commander Muhammad Kamaruzzaman was buried at his village home in Sherpur Sadar upazila early Sunday.Kamaruzzaman, convicted of crimes against humanity during the country’s Liberation War, was executed at 10:30pm on Saturday at Dhaka Central Jail. Soon after the execution, the body of Kamaruzzaman was sent to Sherpur by an ambulance with tight security escort. Kamaruzzaman’s elder brother Muhammad Kafiluddin received the body at his village Kumri Mudipara of Sherpur at around 4:15am. The Jamaat leader was buried at the premises of Kumri Bazitkhila Orphanage at around 5:20am as per his last wish.Before burial, his Namaz-e-Janaza was held on the ground of the orphanage.A large number of law enforcers were deployed at different points of Sherpur as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.UNB adds: Escorted by law enforcers, a hearse carrying the body of the executed war criminal left the jail gate at 11:38 pm.A total of fourteen vehicles, including those of security agencies, were with the ambulance when it started from the prison after an autopsy.But reporters were stopped by law enforcers one kilometre before Kamaruzzaman’s village home at Bajitkhila for security reasons.Some 50 people attended the namaz-e-janaza held at the Kumri Madrasa and Orphanage ground.The namaz-e-janaza was conducted by Maulana Mohammad Abdul Hamid, acting super (principal) of the madrasah and his brother-in-law.
