Leaders of some political parties yesterday decided to launch a united political platform anytime soon with Gano Fourm President Dr Kamal Hossain as its leader. Initiators of the move believe that the political platform would emerge as a major force, alternative to the ruling Awami League (AL) and the main opposition BNP. The leaders of intiative at a meeting with Dr Kamal Hossain in the chair at his Motijheel law chamber decided to discuss with leaders of other likeminded political parties, civil society organizations and individuals citizens.  Those attended the meeting included CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim, former CPB President Monjurul Ahsan Khan, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President ASM Abdur Rob, BSD President Khalequzzaman, Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahamur Rahman Manna and AL leader Sultan Mohammad Monsur.Dr Kamal Hossain placed a draft declaration of the proposed forum. The draft reviewed elaborately country’s overall situation and pledged to to restore democracy and healthy politics, aiming to run the country in light of the Liberation War. The meeting also formed a five-member committee to finalise the draft declaration. Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahamur Rahman Manna told this Correspondent that they would like to discuss with leaders of other likeminded democratic and progressive party and individuals, including former President and Bikalpa Dhara Cheif Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, Krishak Sramik Janata League President Bangabir Abdul Quader Siddiki and United NAP President Pankoj Bhattachariya. Initiators of the move said three developments-1) the government decision to amend the Constitution empowering Parliament to impeach Supreme Court Judges and announcement of the Broadcast Policy, 2) Dishonouring of Commerce Minister and former Chatra League President Tofail Ahmed and 3. BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman’s Tuesday’s speech against forming political party in the name of reigion have expedited the process of launching of the alternative political force.  The government’s move created havoc in the mind of the democracy loving people, who believe in independence of judiciary and freedom of press. The August 30 Suhrawardy Udyan indecorous behaviour with Tofail Ahmed at a BCL rally had sent a shock wave in the AL circles and conscious pro-liberation people that Chhatra League activists were allowed to misbehave with him in presence of the Prime Minister. While, Tarique Rahman’s statement shocked pro-Islamic components of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, including Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Oikya Jote, whose leaders felt their days with BNP is numbered.
