Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal ,MP, hopes that the country’s youths should remains interested in sports that would enable them to play big role to build Bangabandhu’s ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Bangabandhu, said a press release on Saturday.
He was speaking as the chief guest during the formal inauguration ceremony of the Bangabandhu Sports Championship held on Saturday at the city’s Hatirjheel.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell, MP, presided over the opening ceremony.
The Finance Minister said the present government has been keen in contributing in a big way towards the development of sports in the country and he himself also used to take part in sports regularly during his university days.
Kamal said he also worked as an organizer expanding different sports of the country including cricket.
The Finance Minister later handed over the prizes to the cycling and marathon winners sportsmen.
The State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell MP, paying homage to Bangabandhu on March 7, also urged the country’s youth to be motivated and follow the ideal of liberation war.
Organised by Polar, near about six thousand student including 1200 women’s sportsmen from 101 universities are taking part in the biggest university sports competition, which featured twelve events.
The events are athletic, football, cricket, basketball, table tennis, badminton, volleyball, cycling, swimming, handball, chess and kabaddi.
