The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Wednesday sent actor Kalyan Koraya to the jail rejecting his bail plea in connection with an incident that allegedly caused injuries to Zia Islam, a photojournalist of the Prothom Alo.
Magistrate Mazharul Islam of the CMM court passed the order after hearing on Wednesday. The court also rejected the remand prayer of police and asked them to
interrogate the actor at the jail gate. Earlier, Kalabagan Police Station SI Farooq Khan lodged a petition with the court seeking a three-day remand for questioning the actor.
Zia Islam was hit by a car on Monday midnight and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Later he was shifted to a private hospital of the city on Tuesday.
A status posted by Kalyan on Facebook saying ‘I am innocent’ caught the attention of many people. Police then called the actor to the Police Station for questioning.
The Prothom Alo Manager (Security) Retired Major Sajjad Ul Kabir lodged a case with Kalabagan Police Station on behalf of his organization. The actor was arrested immediately. According to the FIR, “After hitting Zia, the car stopped there for sometime with its lights switched off and then it went away.
After Zia was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Kalyan visited the hospital around 1.30am. He allegedly told some journalists present there that his car hit Zia. “Then he disappeared,” the FIR said.
