Kalurghat bridge to be single-storied

Kalurghat bridge will be single-storied and not double-storied like Padma bridge. So like the Yamuna Bridge, there will be a road on one side and a railway line on the other. Railway officials said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved the design. If the Kalurghat Bridge is constructed in a new design, excluding the Padma Bridge design, the cost will increase by at least Tk 500 crore. Senior Railway officials held a meeting with the Prime Minister last Wednesday regarding the Kalurghat Bridge.
In the meeting, 5 designs made by the Korean company Yushin Engineering Corporation for the construction of Kalur Ghat Bridge were presented before the Prime Minister.
Among these designs, the Prime Minister preferred the design of the single-story bridge with a double-lane road on one side and a double-lane railway on the other. If Kalurghat Bridge is constructed in a new design, the cost will be 7 thousand crores.
As the design is finalised, the work of preparing the DPP will now begin. Earlier on July 6, after a meeting organized at CRB, the headquarters of Railway Eastern Region, General Manager of Railway Eastern Region Jahangir Hossain said that the length of the main Kalurghat Bridge will be 780 meters.
The height will be 12.2 meters. 5.62 km viaduct will be constructed on both sides of the bridge. Construction of the bridge will take at least 4 years, Rly east zone sources said.
