The locals on Saturday afternoon have caught an union parishad member, also an Awami League leader with bribe money and posters when he was leaving the office of an independent candidate in the Zilla Paraishad polls in Jhenaidah. Then he was handed over to police.
The UP member was identified as Nasir Uddin Sarder, a member of Simla-Rokanpur union parishad and President of Ward Awami League. He is the son of Fazlur Rahman Mandal of Simla-Rokanpur village under Kaliganj upazila.
Jhenaidah OC Harendra Nath Sarkwer said, the supporters of ruling Awami League candidate in the zilla paraishad polls Kanak Kanti Biswas caught Nasir Uddin Sarder when he was leaving the office of an independent candidate in the polls Harun Or Rashid, the chief exedcutive officer of an NGO Srizony Bangladesh. Later, Nasir was handed over to the returning officer in the zila paraishad polls and deputy commissioner Mahbub Alam Talukder in presence of the media activists in the evning..
When contacted, DC Mahbub Alam Taluakder said, legal steps will be taken for the alleged involvement of the UP member in receiving money from any candidate in the zilla parishad polls.
