Tavella killing: Kala Russel confesses guilt

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday recorded the confessional statement of Minhajul Arefin Russel alias Bhagne Russel alias Kala Russel, accused in Italian citizen Cesare Tavella murder case.

Earlier, Detective Branch Inspector Jehad Hossain, Investigation Officer of the case produced three accused to the court on completion of their eight-day remand.
On October 26, a court placed the trio: Bhagne Russel alias Kala Russel, Chakti Russel and Sakhawat Hossain Sharif on an eight-day remand each in the murder case. Besides, another suspect Shooter Rubel made confessional statement to the court admitting his involvement in the murder.
On October 26, the Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested four suspects from different areas in the capital. Chakti Russel was nabbed from Gulshan area, while Sakhawat Hossain and Kala Russel were arrested from Badda area in the city.
Cesare Tavella, 50, Project Manager for PROOFS (Profitable Opportunities for Food Security) of the Netherlands-based non-governmental organisation ‘ICCO Cooperation’, was shot to death by some miscreants in the city’s Gulshan area on September 28.
On the day of murder, his colleagues lodged the case with Gulshan Police Station and later on September 29, the case was transferred to DB police.
