BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Saturday said that President of the Krishak Sramik Janata League Bangabir Kader Siddiqui had left the Jatiya Oikya Front for personal interest.
“With due respect to Kader Siddiqui, I want to say that he did not join the front to make Tariq Rahman a leader. Kader Siddiqui was motivated by personal gain, and nothing else” he said.
Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said, “I want to tell you one thing, why would you make Tariq Rahman a leader? Tarek Rahman was established as a leader even before the Front was established.”
He made the remarks at a discussion meeting organized by the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Projonmo71 at Dhaka Reporters’ Unit on Saturday. The slogan of the meeting is: release Khaleda Zia and all the political prisoners.
He accused the government of trying to keep the Rohingya issue alive just to make its political gain.
“We must understand why the Rohingyas don’t want to go back. There is a hearsay you (Govt) want to keep the crisis alive out of fear that you won’t be able to use the issue as your political weapon if they (Rohingyas) go back home.” added Gayeshwar.
Gayeshwar said, “The government should not consider a serious problem like Rohingya one as its own issue. “It’s a national crisis and a collective leadership is necessary to overcome the problem. We must create a national consensus with all parties to find a solution.”
He also said there should have been strong efforts to win the support of influential countries and the United Nations to ensure the security of Rohingyas and their safe return to their own country. The BNP leader urged the government to take steps for creating the national unity to overcome the Rohingya problem with united efforts.
