A Dhaka court on Friday recorded the confessional statement of Shafiqul Islam in a case where he and his wife Mehzabin Moon are accused of killing the latter’s parents and younger sister.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mainul Islam recorded the statement after Kadamtali police Sub-Inspector (SI) and case investigation officer Zakir Hossain produced him before the court.
Shafiqul was taken there, after his three-day remand in police custody ended, with a plea to record his confessional statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
After recording the statement, in which court sources said Shafiqul admitted to his involvement in the murders, the court sent him to jail.
On June 21, another Dhaka court had sent him into three-day remand.
On June 19, police had recovered the bodies of Masud Rana, 50, his wife Mousumi Islam, 40, and their younger daughter Jannatul, 18, from their house in Dhaka city’s Kadamtali area.
Shafiqul, 40, and his daughter, Marjan Tabassum Triptia, 5, were also rescued in an unconscious state from the house and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The deceased couple’s elder daughter Mehzabin was detained for questioning at the time. It was later revealed that she called to 999, the emergency helpline, after killing her parents and sister and threatened to murder her husband and their daughter.
She was shown arrested later in a case Masud Rana’s brother Shakhawat Hossain filed at Kadamtali police station, accusing Mehzabin and her husband.
Two days ago, Mehzabin also confessed to her crimes in court.
