Chittagong Bureau :
The one-kilometre Kadamtali Flyover constructed at a cost of Tk 58.2 crore was opened for traffic here on Tuesday.
The construction work of the flyover was started in October, 2011 and completed in June this year.
The Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) wanted to get it inaugurated by Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina. As she could not manage time for her busy schedule, the CDA authorities opened it for vehicular movement Tuesday after six months of its completion without any formal opening ceremony.
Besides, the construction work of two more flyovers at Bahaddarhat and Dewanhat areas in the port city have also been completed at a cost of Tk 1.5 billion.
Traffic jam in the city will be eased remarkably with the construction of these flyovers, CDA hoped.
Moreover, construction work of a 5.2 kilometre-long flyover from Muradpur to Lalkhan Bazar is going on in full swing. The PM formally inaugurated the construction work on November 12 last year.
Max-Rankin JV has been appointed for construction of the flyover that has been named after late Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu, the former Industry and Commerce Secretary of Awami League.
The Muradpur-Lalkhan Bazar flyover project had been approved in the ECNEC meeting on October 1, 2013. The project cost of the four-lane flyover, that will stretch from Muradpur to Lalkhan Bazar covering Sholashahar 2 no gate, GEC circle and WASA circle and will end at Lalkhan Bazar, has been estimated at Tk 5.55 billion and is expected to be completed by 2016.
Moreover, the CDA has signed three memorandum of understandings (MoUs) with three Chinese organisations for a single project of 21 kilometre-long expressway starting from Shah Amanat Airport to Lalkhan Bazar at a cost of Tk 2,500 crore.
According to the CDA sources, a MoU was signed with China Railway Construction International Corporation on August 11.
Besides, two other MoUs were signed with China National Arrow Technology International Engineering Corporation on November 23 and China National Arrow Technology Import and Export Corporation on November 13 in 2014. The Bank of China will finance the project.
The project is expected to be completed by next three years.
