BSS, Rajshahi :
Juveniles, especially the students in schools and colleges should be acquainted with the existing laws relating to the criminal offenses for setting their mindset about how to abide by the laws, researchers and academics said here.
They viewed many of the teenagers commit different types of crimes, including the major ones, due to lack of knowledge about the existing laws. Time has come to overcome this problem and protect the young generation from being prosecuted.
Talking to BSS, Dr Mujibul Haque Azad Khan, a Professor of Department of Psychology of Rajshahi University, termed the adolescents as important section of the society and said they need special care and positive behaviors from their near and dear ones during their adolescent period.
He defined that the traditional offenses of juveniles are not only limited to telling lies, running away from schools, stealing and teasing girls, they are also involved in unlawful, anti-social and suspicious activities, especially drug addiction which greatly affect the law and order situation of the society at large.
Sheikh Alamgir Kabir, Superintendent of Police of Rajshahi, said juveniles get easily involved in unlawful activities because of their surroundings. Lack of self-control and inadequate monitoring by the parents and guardians also leave them off the track.
SP Alamgir Kabir, who recently wrote a book named “Ain Sohayika (A Handbook on Legal Concept)”, said teachers and parents should take the responsibilities of building the students as worthy citizens.
Many of the youths become derailed due to lack of legal concepts and drug addiction.
Alamgir says equal participation of members of law-enforcing agencies and community is needed for ensuring a hundred percent drug-abuse free society.
It is not the work of law-enforcers or any other single organization alone to free the society from drug abuse.
A drug addiction-free society must be built at any cost to protect people, particularly the young generation, from its deadly aggression.
