State Minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam on Wednesday said jute, renowned as golden fiber, will be presented at the world stage anew.
Azam expressed the optimism while talking to journalists after attending an inter-ministerial meeting aimed at increasing the production and multifaceted use of jute, at his secretariat office.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered to bring back the past glory of jute and bring the old jute mills into operation once again. The local use of jute will go up by this, as well the demand of jute and jute goods in the international market will increase,” he said.
“VAT will be reduced in exporting jute goods and such products will be recognized as agricultural items. Discussion will be held with the National Board of Revenue and other concerned authorities in this regard,” Azam added.
