Jute mill workers block road, rail tracks in Khulna

Workers of state-owned jute mills in Khulna city on Monday morning blocked road and rail as part of their month-long protest programme to press home their five-point demand.
Officer-in-charge of Daulatpur Police Station Maruf Ahmed said the agitating workers put barricades on several roads and rail tracks, including Khulna-Jessore highway in the city around 8am. As per the announcement of the workers, they are likely to continue their blockade till 12pm, the OC added.
The workers’ demands include adequate allocation for the jute industry, payment of arrears, formation of a wage board and step back from any move to privatise the state-owned jute mills.
