Jute mill workers blocked the Jatrabari intersection in the capital on Tuesday morning demanding payment of their dues and arrears. The demonstrators took position on Jatrabari intersection from 8am and blocked the intersection, disrupting traffic and creating tailbacks.
Police intervened and brought the situation under control around 10am, said Kazi Wazed, officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station.
Meanwhile, a strike, being enforced by workers of nine jute mills in Khulna region, is underway demanding payment of dues.
Production at the jute mills has remained suspended.
The workers will also observe road blockade programme from 4pm to 7pm today, said Md Murad Hossain, convener of Jute Mill Workers League of Khulna-Jashore region.
