The harvesting of jute in all the four upazilas of the district is now going on in full swing amid much enthusiasm of the farmers.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said farmers of the districts cultivated jute on 20,440 hectares of land this year with a target of producing 2,44,800 bales of the cash crop.
Farmers are expecting a bumper production of jute this year thanks to a proper monitoring by the authorities concerned.
Of which 38,400 bales of jute would be produced in Sadar upazila, 96,000 bales in Alamdanga upazila, 86,400 bales in Damurhuda upazila and 24,000 bales in Jibannagar upazila.
So far 70-percent harvesting work has been completed and the rest work would be completed the first week of the next month.
