Justice Abu Sayeed’s death anniv today

The 28th death anniversary of former president late Justice Abu Sayeed Chowdhury will be observed today (2nd August, Tuesday).
To mark the day the Holy Quran Khwani and Milad Mahfil will be arranged at Nagbari Jaam-e Masjid in Tangail. His children have requested all his friends, relatives and well-wishers to pray to Almighty Allah for salvation of the departed soul. Justice Abu Sayeed Chowdhury National Memorial Council will arrange a memorial meeting soon.
Justice Chowdhury resigned as Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University on 15th March, 1971 in protest of killing of two students in the Campus by the Pakistani Occupation Army. Later on he played a significant role in mobilizing world opinion for the cause of Bangladesh as special envoy of the provisional government. In 1985 Justice Chowdhury was unanimously elected Chairman of U. N. Human Rights Commission. After Mrs. Vijay Luxmi Pundit of India and Sir Jafarullah Khan of Pakistan, he was the third personality to lead this most prestigious forum of U.N. The then U.S First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt was the first Chairperson of this Commission.
In Eighties Justice Abu Sayeed Chowdhury played a significant role in anti-autocracy movement.
