Justice A F M Abdur Rahman retires

Justice A F M Abdur Rahman, a judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of the country, went into retirement on Wednesday. The judge of the High Court Division was accorded a farewell by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, other judges of the Appellate Division and the judges of the High Court Division at the
judges’ lounge yesterday, his last working day as justice.
As well as Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Advocate Zainul Abedin, Secretary Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan and other Senior lawyers accorded the farewell to him at the court room.
Senior lawyers Barrister Mainul Hosein, Advocate A F M Hasan Arif, Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder, Advocate S M Rezaul Karim were also present on the occasion.
Justice Abdur Rahman delivered some important judgements during his tenure as justice, SCBA Secretary Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin said.
Justice Abdur Rahman is the son of late Dr Abdul Gaffer Khan and late Mosammat Mohsena Begum.
Born on July 5, 1951 at Gazaria upazila, Munshiganj, he obtained his LLB degree from Central Law College in 1977. Later he obtained the same degree with honors from the University of London and LLM degree from California, USA. He is a Barrister-at-Law of Lincoln’s Inn.
He was enrolled as an Advocate of the Dhaka District Court on February 3, 1979 and in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court on September 16, 1982 and in the Appellate Division on January 14, 2000.
He was elevated as the Additional Judge of the High Court Division on April 27, 2003 and appointed as a permanent Judge of the same Division on April 27, 2005.
He participated in the international seminars and workshops held in UK, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Saudi Arabia and Nepal.
