Moulvibazar Correspondent :
“Mora Juri Nodi” of Moulvibazar’s juri Upazila has been re-occupied and shops have been re-constructed on the river bank. Occupying the lower part of the bridge connecting Kaminiganj and Bhabaniganj Bazar, a trader has built a tin shed fence and sanitary shop at the bottom.
There is anger among the traders as it has obstructed the drainage of water in the market besides occupying the river.
According to the Water Development Board, about 10 acres of the river was cleared in February last year with the help of the Upazila Development and District Administration officials.
In addition to the occupation, the administration evicted about 60 installations. But at present, due to the lack of surveillance, the river is being polluted by dumping garbage and re-occupation is going on. For several months now, the businessman has been occupying the river and building a shop, but no one seems to notice.
Going to the ground, it can be seen that the Water Development Board has freed the river and made a road on the river bank. Abul Khair, the owner of Abul Khair Steel House, is doing business by occupying this road and building a shop at the lower part of the bridge. There is a tin fence around the shop and the lower part is also paved. In addition, various goods have been kept in the empty part of the river bank.
Accused businessman Abul Khair, the owner of Abul Khair Steel House, admitted that he had built a shop on his mobile phone by occupying the place of the river with a tin fence and paving the bottom. If the owner of the market builds a shop, I will demolish it.
Water Development Board Assistant Engineer Al-Amin said he went to the scene to find out the truth about the occupation of the river. This part of the river will be vacated in coordination with the upazila administration.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sonia Sultana said, “We have already been informed about this.” This place on the river will be vacated soon.
