Juraichhari declared ‘beggar-free upazila’

Juraichhari upazila of Rangamati has been declared beggar-free. The photo shows a beggar receiving cash from DC Mohammad Manzarul Mannan on Monday.
Juraichhari Upazila of the hill district has been declared “beggar-free upazila” on Monday. Six beggars of the upazila got cattle, pigs and cash as their permanent source of livelihood. Deputy Commissioner of the district Mohammad Manzarul Mannan distributed the rearing-animals and cash among the beggars as chief guest with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Rashed Iqbal in the chair. Among others, Upazila Parishad Chairman Uday Joy Chakma and Vice-Chairman of upazila and UP level government officials were also present at the function.1
DC Mohammad Manzarul Mannan said, according to the announcement of the Prime Minister, ten upazilas and two municipalities of the district will be free from beggars by 2018.
