The long-term national junior athletics camp begins tomorrow (Saturday) at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here.
A total of 24 athletes – 13 of boys’ and 11 of girls’ – from different divisions, districts and associations from across the country will take part in the camp, organised by Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF).
National Sports Council (NSC) allotted Taka two lakh for BAF to run the camp.
BAF general secretary M Ibrahim Chengis said they have a plan to run the camp at least six month to one year. However, the longevity of the camp would be depend on financial availability.
In this regards, a press conference was held on Thursday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium conference room to give all the details of the meet.
BAF president ASM Ali Kabir and Walton additional director head of games and sports FM Iqbal Bin Anwar, were among others, present on the occasion.
The nominated athletes are (boys’ event) – Noushad and Kamrul Hasan (Narayanganj DSA), Uzzal Kumar Sutradhar (Kishorganj DSA), Ibad Ali and Romel Baijit, (Khulna DSA), Ashrafuzzaman, Irfan and Saiful Islam (BKSP), Ashraful Alam (Nnasrsingdi DSA), Jakaria Islam (Jessore DSA), Amit Hasan (Narail DSA) and Abdullah Hasan (Natore DSA).
Girls’ event – Tamanna Aakter, Iirin Akter, and Disha Sultana (BKSP), Sharifa Khatun (Khulna DSA), Marufa Kkhatun, Sabiha Al Sohara and Sultana Rajia (Khulna DSA), Sohagi Akter and Jakia Sultana (BJMC) Asma Haque (Kishorganj DSA) and Simi Karmakar (Narail DSA).
