Junior Asia Cup Hockey shifted to next year

The Junior Asia Cup Hockey, which was scheduled to be held from June 4-14 in Dhaka in the name of Bangabandhu to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation, now has been shifted to next year.
The tournament was postponed by the Asian Hockey Federation last month due to troublesome situation across the globe for COVID-19 situation.
“Yes the Junior Asia Cup Hockey will now be held next year ‘said the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) acting general secretary Mohammad Yousuf to BSS by adding that the date of the tournament however yet to finalize.”
He said the BHF is constant in touch with Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) to know the latest update of the tournament.
“You know among the ten participating countries China, Korea and Japan are the most affected countries by the COVID-19 …so the AHF will sit with the all participating countries to fix the date of the tournament.
Earlier, the Bangladesh Hockey Federation had a plan to organise number of international meets in home this year to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, but due to outbreak of coronavirus those tournaments have been postponed or rescheduled.
Replying to a question, the BHF acting general secretary informed that the training camp of the team for the Junior Asia Cup, which was postponed last month for the indefinite period due to Coronavirus outbreak, will resume as soon as the situation improve.
Meanwhile, the schedule of Champions Hockey League, which is slated for November, however has remained unchanged.
Earlier, the training camp of the team for the Junior Asai Cup Hockey began on November last year and again resumed in December after the Victory Day Hockey competition. The camp again took a 12-day recess from February 12 due to Shaheed Smrity Hockey Competition held in February.
Meanwhile, ten countries will take part in the Bangabandhu Junior Asia Cup. The tournament will be held with the name of Bangabandhu to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation.
The 10 participating countries are India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, China, Oman, Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan and host Bangladesh.
Earlier, talking to BSS coach Mamunur Rashid said the BHF had called the camp through open trial in November last year where initially 80 players were picked up.
He said the camp was eventually trimmed to 46 players after providing those 15 days training and the camp have now 36 players mostly from BKPS and services team.
