Today is the birthday of noted Nazrul singer Julie Sharmelee. While talking about her special day, Julie said, “I cherish every memory of my birthday. Then again, I get a little upset, when I realise I am growing old. However,
I am happy that I am doing well health-wise. Do keep me your prayers on my special day.”
Julie Sharmelee is a versatile singer of the country. She is known internationally for her contribution and works on playback, modern, Ghazal, Narzul and Tagore songs. Besides, she can also render songs from various languages such as Arabic, Spanish, English, Urdu, Hindi and Nepalese. She got her first inspiration from her mother, the famous journalist late Sameena Sidddique. She found a congenial atmosphere at home that nurtured her love for singing. She started her musical life when she was 5 years old. She went to BTV Esho Gaan Shikhi
programme which was organized by well-known famous singer Ferdousi Rahman. Subcontinent’s well-known famous singer Ustad Niaz Mohammed Chowdhury taught her the basics of classical music.
