Leaders of Dr Badruddoza Chowdhury-led Jukta Front on Friday demanded the government form an election-time neutral government and reconstitute the Election Commission (EC) to ensue inclusive polls.
They made the demand at a meeting at B Chowdhury’s Baridhara residence in the evening.
Apart from B Chowdhury, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President ASM Abdur Rob, Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna and Bikolpo Dhara organising secretary Omar Farroque were present at the meeting, said a press release. The Jukta Front leaders wondered over Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader’s recent comment over the nature of election-time government.
Earlier on Wednesday, Quader told reporters that there is a possibility of forming a polls-time government in October. “It wouldn’t be a new government, rather an incumbent one will take charge and the size of the cabinet will be smaller.”
The Jukta Front leaders said different elections, including the last general one, over the last few years were questionable.
“So, Jukta Front turns down the statement of the minister over the formation of the election-time government under the current voter-less government,” the press release added.
The Jukta Front leaders said an election-time neural government and an impartial EC must be constituted alongside dissolution of the Cabinet and Parliament to ensure a level-playing field.
They also urged people to be vocal and active with a demand for ensuring an acceptable election.
