Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has decided that judges and lawyers need not wear traditional black gowns during court proceedings amid the growing cases of Covid-19 infection.
Confirming the matter to BSS, Supreme Court spokesperson Md Saifur Rahman said the chief justice has taken the decision after discussing the matter with the senior judges of the apex court.
“The judges and lawyers would wear white shirt, white saree or salwar kamij with white neck band or black necktie amid this changed situation. It is not necessary for them to wear the black coat or gown.
This direction would come into effect immediately in the Supreme Court and lower courts across the country,” Md Saifur Rahman, also a Special Officer of the High Court Division, told BSS.
The Supreme Court has already issued a notification, signed by its Registrar Md Badrul Alam Bhuiyan, in this regard.
