Former Chief Justice of Malaysia Zaki Bin Azmi on Tuesday said, judges and lawyers have to take joint initiatives to reduce case backlog in the courts.
Only after settling the trial of one case, should another case be taken, also said Justice Zaki Bin Azmi who is now the Chief Justice of Dubai International Financial Courts.
If Malaysia can reduce the case backlog then why not Bangladesh, he questioned.
He said, “Hearing of a case should not be adjourned. Following this way Malaysia reduced case backlog. If Bangladesh follows the Malaysian system the case backlog must be reduced. And for that the lawyers have to co-operate the judges.”
He was delivering speech as a guest speaker in a ‘Meet the Bar’ program organized by Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Tuesday.
Judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court and now the performing Chief Justice of Bangladesh Muhammad Imman Ali was present on the occasion as Chief Guest.
SCBA President Advocate A M Amin Uddin presided over the program while Veteran jurist Dr Kamal Hossain and SCBA Secretary Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan, among others, attended the program.
Justice Muhammad Imman Ali also sought cooperation from the lawyers to reduce case backlog in the courts. He said, “The lawyers have to show cooperative mentality to ensure justice for the litigants. They should come out from the mentality of adjourning cases.”
