Jasim Uddin, 35, Jubo League president of ward No. 9 (Adarshagram) of Chardarbesh union in Feni upazila was stabbed to death by some unidentified miscreants at Sonagazi Upazila early Wednesday.
Police picked up six persons suspecting their involvement in the murder.
Jasim came under the attack at Adarshagram, adjacent to the local police investigation centre, when he was returning home together with some of his supporters at midnight, police and eye witnesses said.
Hearing Jasim’s screams, local people rushed to the spot and found him lying in a pool of blood.
He was taken to Sonagazi Upazila Health Complex, where he was declared dead by attending doctor. Confirming the incident, Abu Jafar Md Saleh, officer-in-charge of Sonagazi Police Station, said the body was sent to Feni Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Md Suman, 30 was caught by the local people after the murder and handed him over to the law enforcers. A blood stained dress was found with him. Police also detained five other persons from the village in connection with the murder.
Our Feni Correspondent adds: The murder of Jashim took place centering establishment of supremacy over toll collection and land grabbing in the area, local people alleged.
A case has been filed with Sonagazi thana by Fatema, wife of Jashim accusing 11 persons. There was feud between two groups of local Jubo League in the area for the last few days.
The rival groups equipped with lethal weapons suddenly got engaged in clashes on Tuesday late night which led to the death of Jashim and injury of Suman (28). The police rushed to the place of incident and took four persons into custody including Suman. Arrested three others are Babul, Nizamuddin and Sheikh Farid.
