UNB, Dhaka – A court here on Thursday sent Jubo Dal president Moazzem Hossain Alal and six other to jail in a case filed under the Special Powers Act 1974. Metropolitan magistrate Md Asaduzzman Nur passed the order when sub-inspector Nayan Miah of Mohammadpur Police Station produced them before the court on completion of their three-day remand. The five other accused who were sent to jail are Saidur Rahman, a member of central unit Juba Dal, Jahngir Hossain Hawladar, Alal’s personal secretary, and three Juba Dal activists – Abul Kalam Azad, Kamrul Islam and Rubel Hawladar. On October 26, the same court had put them on a three-day each and sent 56 remaining accused to jail rejecting bail plea of them. Meanwhile, defence counsel Md Sanaullah Miah filed a petition seeking bail for the accused which was rejected by the court. Mohammadpur police arrested 64 leaders and activists of BNP and its fronts, including Alal, from Alal’s Lalmatia residence on October 25. Police claimed that they gathered at the house to join a meeting arranged there to work out a plan to carry out subversive activities during today’s hartal. Later, a case was filed against them for their alleged role in planning subversive activities.
