A local Jubo Dal leader was hacked to death by some miscreants at Siladi in Sadar upazila on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Sabuj Hossain, general secretary of no 1 Siladi union unit Jubo Dal and son of Abu Taher of the area.
Quoting local people, police said a group of miscreants intercepted Sabuj and hacked him to death
while returning to his home from his poultry farm around 11:30 pm. Hearing hue and cry, local people rushed in and caught five miscreants and gave them a good thrashing while fleeing the spot after the murder.
Later they were handed over to police. They were identified as Belal Hossain, a local Islami Chhatra Shibir activist, his father Jaher Ahmed, his brother Riaz Hossain, Arif Hossain and Mahiuddin. On information, police rushed in and sent the body to sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy. Police suspected that miscreants might have killed Sabuj following dispute over land with Belal.
Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Chandraganj Police Station, said police arrested five people including a Shibir man suspecting their involvement in the killing.
