Juba Dal man killed in Jessore gunfight

Anisur Rahman, 34, an activist of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal and son of former UP member Anwar Hossain from Lauri village under Monirampur upazila, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between ‘two groups of miscreants’ at Begaritala under Monirampur upazila in Jessore early Wednesday, said the police. But family members claimed that he was picked up from his Lauri village residence by police early Monday.
Babul Akhter, cousin of Anis, told journalists that the Juba Dal activist was not killed in the so-called gunfight, but after police picked up him from his residence early Monday. At that time Police were not in uniform.
Shahid Iqbal Hossain, President of Monirampur upazila unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party said that the whole family was involved in BNP politics. ‘He was an activist of Juba Dal,’ he added.
Biplab Kumar Nath, Officer in-Charge, Monirampur police station, said that Anis was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between two groups of miscreants at Begaritala.
The police rushed him to Jessore General Hospital after rescuing him from the spot around 12:50am. He died at the hospital around 2am, the OC said. The OC also denied the allegation of the family members of the deceased.
