UNB, Savar :
Describing the allegation brought against her in a letter sent to the PM by BCL general secretary Golam Rabbani as propaganda, Vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Prof Farzana Islam on Saturday challenged them to prove it.
She also urged the Chancellor of the university and the University Grants Commission to prove the allegation to unearth the fact.
“I’m also urging you (journalists) to launch an enquiry into the matter,” Prof Farzana said while talking to reporters.
She said although BCL president Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and Rabbani claimed that Tk 1.6 crore was given to the university unit of BCL, they uttered nothing about their demand for ‘4-6 percent’ cut from the university’s development project for them.
Claiming that BCL wanted to use her to divert people’s attention from their misdeeds to a different direction, the JU VC said, “Cashing in on the movement at Jahangirnagar University, they tagged the issue of money to hush up their misdeeds.”
She also alleged a section of people was trying to portray her as corrupt. “But, I don’t care about it. I think this should be investigated.”
Prof Farzana also alleged that BCL leaders did not spare her even she was hospitalised, saying Shovon and Rabbani went to her after 11pm to talk to her about the schedule. “I felt unsecure when I came to know that around 300 boys are staying outside my room and on the hospital premises.”
“Security personnel were also worried as former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was in the room just opposite of mine,” she said.
It was also alleged that BCL leaders took Tk 2 crore promising not to stand in the way of the development project.
Amid the allegation, Rabbani claimed that the JU unit BCL was given Tk 1.6 crore.
However, the university administration and the JU unit BCL denied any underhand dealing and accused Rabbani of spreading falsehood.
