The ruling party Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said action will be taken against Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Prof Farzana islam if the allegation of bribing Chhatra League leaders is found in investigation. Quader, also Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, was talking to reporters at a press conference at his ministry on Tuesday.
Regarding the allegations that the VC engaged in corruption with the money allocated for the university’s development projects, he said: “If the VC is found involved in any corruption, she will face the same music as others.”
JU VC Farzana Islam has all along denied the allegations, including the involvement of her family members in any such dealing.
Farzana Islam and two of her family members appear to be in a fix with a JU BCL faction publicly claiming that it had received Tk 25 lakh as per a settlement reached at a meeting on August 9 at the VC’s residence.
Recently, the JU VC claimed to media that Chhatra League leaders pressed her for sharing money allocated for JU infrastructural development.
On the contrary, two leaders of JU unit BCL reportedly told Golam Rabbani, the removed general secretary of the BCL central committee that Prof Farzana Islam gave them Tk 1 crore in a phone call record that went viral on social media, triggering outrage against the JU VC.
