Teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) demanded the lifetime expulsion of the accused students who sexually harassed an indigenous female student on the Pahela Baishakh night.
The demand came from a press conference organized by “Sikkhak-Sikkharthi Oikya Mancha” at around 3:00 pm on Sunday.
They also announced a five-point demands including resignation of proctor, lifetime expulsion of culprits and ensure the security of all students of the campus.
Speaking at the press conference, associate professor of Philosophy department Raihan Rayne, also the spokepersons of the platform, claimed that the anti-harassment cell tried to delay the process of investigation as most of the accused are the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of JU unit.
“The administration also mentally harassing the victims in the name of inquiry” claimed Raihan Rayne.
The platform also threatens to besiege the administration building if the anti-sexual harassment cell will not submit their reports to the disciplinary committee within 30 April.
Rejecting the allegation, head of the prove team Prof Rasheda Akhter said, “The investigation is going on. We hope to submit our reports after the probe is over.”
