The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka on Wednesday sentenced Jahangirnagar University (JU) teacher Ruhul Amin Khondoker to three years in prison for wishing the death of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Nazmul Haque Shyamol passed the order in absence of the convict on Wednesday afternoon. The court also fined him Tk 10,000, in default will have to suffer three months more in the prison. The convict was on the run since the case was lodged in 2014.
He wrote in his Facebook account status,
“Wishing PM’s death”, after the death of five people including filmmaker Tareque Masud and Ashfaque (Mishuk) Munier in a road accident.
Ruhul Amin was appointed temporarily, as a teacher at JU Institute of Information Technology in 2008, and he was on education leave in Australia since 2009. In 2012, the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, sentenced Ruhul Amin to six months imprisonment for not following summons of the case.
