JU students, teachers demand judicial probe into graft allegations

Jahangirnagar Against Corruption, a joint platform of students and teachers of Jahangirnagar University, on Sunday declared a siege program on the campus from September 3 demanding judicial investigation into the allegations of corruption in the mega-development project of the university.
They made the declaration at a press conference at the Teachers and Students Center (TSC) of the university around 1pm.
Prof Shamima Sultana, a professor of Bangla Department of the university; Abu Raihan Rain, Associate Professor of Philosophy Department; Ashikur Rahman, president of Jahangirnagar Cultural Alliance; Shahidul Islam Pappu, general secretary of JCA; Nozir Amin Chowdhury Joy, president of Bangladesh Chhatra Union’s JU unit; Md Didar, general secretary of Chaatra Front’s JU unit; Abu Sayed, coordinator of Bangladesh General Students; Right Protection Council’s; among others, were present at the press conference.
On the other hand, Bangabandhu Teachers Council in a separate press conference at arts faculty on the campus urged the students not to impede the development project by making illogical demands.
They also alleged that some teachers and students are creating disorder by raising false allegations. They described the allegation of corruption in the development project as false and baseless.
Professor Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, president of the council; Professor Bashir Ahmed, secretary; among others, attended the press conference.
