JU students demand withdrawal of case

Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Sunday demanded the withdrawal of case against a total of 56 students over the charge of vandalizing Vice Chancellor’s residence on May 27.
Under the banner of ‘Protibader Nam Jahangirnagar’, over two hundred students from different departments and institutions of the university formed a human chain around 11:00am in front of JU administrative building.
Terming the case which was filed against the students as false and harassing, the students urged to the university authority to withdraw is as early as possible.
Besides, they also demanded to reformation of the investigative body by the university with impartial personalities.
Touhid Hasan, President of JU cultural alliance said, “We don’t get back to the residence if the authority won’t withdrew the case”.
A silent procession will be held today (Monday) under the banner of Teachers students alliance at the campus for same demand, Touhid added.
Moderated by the organizing secretary of Bangladesh Student Union (JU) Oliur Rahman Sun, leaders and activists of left leaning students organizations and JU Cultural Alliance and general students were took part at the programme among others.
Earlier, on May 26, two students of the university Nazmul Hasan Rana and Arafat Hossain were killed as a bus hit a human hauler on Dhaka-Aricha highway near the campus.
Then the general students had been demonstrating following the death of their two fellows and made a blockade at the Dhaka-Aricha highway where police charged button and fired tear shell, rubber bullets.
