A student of Jahangirnagar University (JU) reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall of the university early Friday.
JU registrar Abu Bakar Siddiq said a group of residential students of the dormitory saw Adnan, a student of 41st batch of Accounting & Information System Department, hanging with the fan at Room No. 450 around12 am.
The students then broke open the room and took
Adnan to the university medical centre. However, its doctors sent him to Enam Medical College and Hospital where he was declared dead.
It is not still clear what prompted Adnan, hailing from Manikganj district, to kill himself, said registrar Abu Bakar. He said Adnan’s family members took his body to his ancestral home in the morning.
A pall of gloom descended on the campus following the incident. Meanwhile, JU Vice-chancellor Dr Farzana Islam visited the dormitory.
