The Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have taken elaborate programmes to celebrate Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali new year.
To mark the day, JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam will inaugurate the renovated ‘Amar Ekushey’ sculpture at 10 am, said a press release on Thursday.
Besides, JU Social Science faculty will celebrate the day in front of the faculty premises with different programmes, the release added.
Meanwhile, JU Teacher-Student Centre will organise a three daylong ‘Baishakhi Fair’ on central cafeteria premises, said its Director Professor Bashir Ahmed.
‘We will also bring out a ‘Mongal Shovajattra’ with the participation of students in different departments and institutes of the university. Besides we will organise a cultural event at Selim Al Deen Muktamancha in the afternoon’, he added.
Meanwhile, JU Arts and Humanities faculty have taken up two day-long programme to mark the ‘Chaitra Sangkranti’ and Pahela Baishakh.
Dean of Arts of Humanities faculty Professor Mozammel Haque disclosed the event on Thursday at a press conference at the teachers’ lounge.
