The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) celebrated the ‘University Day’ marking its 48th founding anniversary on the campus amid festive mood on Friday.
Marking the day, the university wore a festive look as former and current students, employees, officers and teachers of the university joined the day long colourful programme with banners, balloons and festoons.
JU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Farzana Islam inaugurated the programme by hoisting the national flag and releasing balloons in front of Business Studies Faculty.
Vice Chancellor of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University Prof Mohammad Alauddin, JU Pro-VC (academic) Prof Abul Hossain, Pro-VC (administration) Prof Amir Hussain, Treasurer Prof Sheikh Monjurul Huq and former JU VC Prof Shariff Enamul Kabir were present at the inaugural session.
Later, a colorful procession led by JU VC was brought out from the faculty premises and ended at the Selim Al Deen Muktamancha after parading different streets of the campus.
The daylong programme included a puppet show, staging drama and cultural function and a photography exhibition.
JU was established on 20 August in 1970 and its academic activities formally began on 12 January, 1971 with 4 departments, 21 teachers, 150 students and 3 residential halls.
