The eighth annual Disaster Response Exercise and Exchange (DREE)-2017 co-hosted by Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR), Armed Forces Division (AFD) and United States Army Pacific (USARPAC) concluded on the twelfth instant at Army Golf Club.
Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operations & Training) Air Vice Marshal Mashiuzzaman Serniabat graced the occasion as chief guest, an ISPR press release said.
“We shall continue our effort to enhance our capacity in disaster management. Together we have to combine our efforts to make a resilient society by rendering our utmost to the distressed humanity in all sorts of disaster situations across the globe,” Air Vice Marshal Serniabat said.
Deputy Chief of Mission, US Embassy, Joel Reifman, Brigadier General Bryan E. Suntheimer, Deputy Commanding General, Army National Guard, Director General, Department of Disaster Management, Md Reaz Ahmed and Director General Operations and Plan Directorate, AFD Brigadier General Azazul Bar Chowdhury were present as special guests.
The five day event brought together more than 1000 participants from approximately 130 different government and non government organizations. Good number of participants from Canada, China, India, Malaysia, the Maldives, Nepal, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka and USA also joined the event.
During the initial stage, Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) was conducted in the form of presentation both by local and foreign experts. Later, participants worked together in the form of Table Top Exercise (TTX).
Field Training Exercise (FTX) was organized on October 11 at Mirpur Eastern Housing Society where a practical demonstration was conducted involving all concerned stakeholders.
It is expected that such vibrant participation by all personnel from both local and foreign is likely to contribute significantly for the post earthquake disaster management preparation of Bangladesh and also improve regional disaster response capability as a whole.
Main objectives of this exercise were to test and enhance own ability of managing earthquake disaster; enhance knowledge and practice of international tools and services for integration of international system into national system; train divisional level planners/disaster coordinators (military and civilian), so that they can arrange similar exercise/training at divisional/local level.
