An activist of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity, or JSS, has been shot dead in Bandarban Sadar Upazila while another has been kidnapped, the police said.
The incident occurred in the Taingkhali Bazar under the Sadar Upazila’s Rajbola Union on Tuesday night, said Bandarban Sadar Police OC Shahidul Alam Chowdhury.
The dead was identified as Benoy Tanchangya, who ran a grocery store at the Taingkhali Bazar.
The abductee has been identified as the 42-year-old Puradhon Tanchanga.
“Benoy Tanchangya was shot dead in Taingkhali Bazar. I heard from the locals that another activist was abducted from No. 9 area of Rubber Bagan at the same time,” said Rajbila Union Parishad Chairman

Kaongpro Marma. JSS District President Uchomong Marma blamed Myanmar’s separatist organisation Arakan Liberation Party for the incident.
“No one has filed a case yet. Legal action will be taken after a complaint is received,” said OC Shahidul. The body of Benoy Tanchangya has been sent to the Bandarban Sadar Hospital’s morgue for autopsy.
