With passing six bills in 10 sittings, the 12th session of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament) was prorogued yesterday as Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury read out the prorogation order of the President.
Prior to reading out the prorogation order of the session that began on September 25, the speaker urged all lawmakers belonging to both the
treasury and opposition benches and independent ones to play a constructive role in making the parliament more effective to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the people.
“The 12th session of the parliament became lively with the active participation of treasury and opposition lawmakers . . . their valuable opinion played a significant role in making the session more constructive,” she said while delivering her concluding address.
The Speaker congratulated the lawmakers for taking part in the questions and answers sessions and hoped that the lawmakers of the treasury and opposition benches and independent ones would continue to play their constructive role in the House in future.
Giving a salient feature of the 12th session of the parliament, she said Leader of the House and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Begum Rawshan Ershad and Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, ministers, treasury and opposition benches and independent members took part in the businesses of the House.
The House passed six bills during the session. A total of 318 notices under Rule 71 of the Rules of the Procedure were received and, of them, 18 notices were accepted and six of the accepted notices were discussed in the House.
Movers of 104 notices got the opportunity to speak for two minutes each under Rule 71 (a) of the Rules of Procedure.
The Speaker said a total of 156 questions were received for the Prime Minister’s question-answer time and she responded to 28 including the supplementary ones.
A total of 2,400 questions were received for ministers and state ministers question-answer time and they responded to 1,668 including the supplementary ones. Besides, ministers and state ministers gave statements on contemporary important issues during the 12th session.
