Staff Reporter :The fifth session of the 10th parliament will begin at 4:00pm today [Monday]. It will be the first session of the year as well as the winter session of the parliament. President Md Abdul Hamid summoned the session of the National Parliament on December 31, according to Article 72[1] of the Constitution.As per the Constitution, the President will deliver his speech based on government activities specially highlighting development works.General discussion on thanksgiving motion on President’s speech will take place in the session.The Business Advisory Committee of Parliament, however, will finalise the duration of the fifth session at its meeting today afternoon with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Choudhury in the chair.Official source of Parliament Secretariat said that so far two bills were submitted for the fifth session. Besides, there are six pending bills for the session in the Secretariat.The fourth JS session that commenced November 13 was prorogued on November 30.A total of seven bills out of 10 were passed during the 10 working days of the fourth session. In that session the House adopted a thanksgiving motion under rule 147 as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received South South Co-Operation Visionary Award. Besides, thanksgiving motions were also adopted after Speaker Shirin Sharmin Choudhury and Saber Hossain, MP, elected as CPA Chairperson and IPU President respectively.
