JS committee directs IU to follow UGC rules

Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Undertaken on Tuesday directed the Islamic University (IU) to follow the rules of University Grants Commission (UGC).
It also urges the IU authority to take necessary measures so that no audit objection is raised in future.
The directives came at the 17th meeting of the committee held at Jatiya Sangsand Bhaban with its chairman Shawkat Ali in the chair.
Committee members Muhibur Rahman Manik, Abdur Rauf and Advocate Navana Akhter attended the meeting.
The committee was apprised there was a total of 619 audit objections from 1978 to 2013-14 in the IU, of which 132 objections have been settled. Besides, there is 487 unsettled audit objections which has an involvement of nearly Taka 99.91 crore.
The parliamentary watchdog body passed recommendation to settle the audit objections through bilateral or trilateral meetings. It also urged the IU authorizes to fulfill the 30 per cent freedom fighter’s children quota during appointment of human resources and also follow the appointment guideline of government.
