A parliamentary body has summoned Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmood over BASIC Bank corruptions.
The ACC chief and its officials, who are involved in dealing with the BASIC Bank graft, have been asked by the Standing Committee on Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs to be present at its next sitting.
The summon order came at the Committee’s meeting held at the Parliament Bhaban on Thursday with lawmaker Abdul Matin Khasru in the chair.
Committee member lawmaker Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh informed the panel’s meeting of the High Court’s directives on the cases filed over the graft at the state-owned banks, said a statement issued by the parliament Secretariat.
After that, the panel expressed its concern over why the ACC is not taking measures against the accused despite the HC’s specific directives, it said.
The JS committee then recommended ensuring the presence of the ACC chief and the officials concerned to attend its next meeting, added the statement. It also discussed other issues, including land registration fee, and asked the relevant ministry to present a full report on how to set the fees at its next sitting. The parliamentary body also formed a four-member JS sub-committee on digitization of land registration system and asked it to prepare a full report on the matter.
