The parliamentary standing committee on Agriculture Ministry on Thursday sought within a month a detailed report on the missing 3,000 tonnes of fertilizer which disappeared from a BADC warehouse.
According to a Jatiya Sangsad secretariat statement the parliamentary watchdog urged a three-member subcommittee comprising members of the committee to submit their investigation report on the missing fertilizer.
The missing fertilizer was kept at a warehouse of the state-run Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation’s (BADC) at at Bhairab in Kishorganj.
The parliamentary body made the call at its 6th meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its Chairman M Maqbul Hossain presiding.
Committee members Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, M Abdur Razzaq, M Moslem Uddin, M Mamunur Rashid Kiron, AKM Rezaul Karim Tansen, M Nurul Islam Omar and Advocate Umme Kulsul Smrity took part in the meeting.
The meeting expressed profound shock over the deaths of scientist Prof Dr Maqsudul Alam and former minister Sardar Amzad Hossain, and prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls.
It took a decision to request the Prime Minister to give a posthumous award to internationally reputed scientist Maqsudul Alam, who discovered jute genome, for his creative activities.
The meeting reviewed ways to resolve the problems of relocated Agriculture Research Institute and the situation of Boro rice, potato, wheat and other winter crops.
It recommended the ministries for water resources and fisheries, and animal resources to take steps for fish farming in the Kaptail Lake.
The JS committee suggested conducting a research to know about ground water levels in different areas of the country and taking measures for development of regional agriculture research centers.
Secretary of agriculture ministry, BADC chairman and senior officials concerned were present at the meeting.
