Parliamentary Committee on Estimates on Wednesday recommended the Ministry of Railways to construct overpass over level crossings to avoid accidents between rail engines and other vehicles.
The recommendation was made at a meeting of the committee at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban here, with committee chairman Md. Abdus Shahid presiding.
Committee members Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury, Yussuf Abdullah Harun, A.B Tajul Islam, Fazle Hossain Badsha, Ahsan Adelur Rahman, Gulam Mohammad Siraj and Khadizatul Anwar attended the meeting.
The committee held discussions on ongoing projects of 2019-20 and 2020-21 fiscals of the Ministry of Railways and progress in the implementations of the recommendations made at its sixth meeting. It also proposed submitting an overall report to the committee on railway tracks, seats, signal system, platform and development of passenger service from 2008 to 2020.
The JS body also recommended the Ministry of Railways to give an explanation on why the facility of transporting high cube containers was not kept in the underpasses, in the planning for laying railway tracks from Dhaka to Mongla.
IMED secretary, chiefs of different concerned agencies and senior officials of Ministry of Railways and Parliament Secretariat were also present at the meeting.
