The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Food Ministry has recommended for construction of SILO in northern region and other parts of the country which produces surplus food.
“The committee suggests construction of SILOs in future in districts or areas like northern region which produces surplus food,” a parliamentary secretariat statement said on Monday.
The recommendation came at the 17th meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban yesterday. The committee also sought food department’s stricter and continued monitoring so substandard grains could not be stored in public warehouses.
According to the statement the committee also asked concerned officials to carry out a study on the impact of aquaculture in rice fields.
Chairman of the committee M Abdul Wadud presided over the meeting attended, among others, by its members Food Minister M Quamrul Islam, Khandaker Abdul Baten and Sheikh Mohammad Nurul Haq.
