JS body mulls options against truant employers

The meeting of the parliamentary committee on “labor and employment ministry” met at the parliament complex to discuss the latest situation in the labor market of the country.
The major issues that came up were related to wages and benefits of workers before Eid-ul-Azha. It was observed that all wages and fringe benefits were given to employees working in the state sector.
The committee also looked into the options of taking action against private employers who had failed to clear their dues before Eid.
Registration of a trade union of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) was also scrutinized.
The retrenchment of workers at Bata Shoe Company came up for discussion but was differed to the next meeting as the sub-committee working on it would submit their report then.
Chaired by Begum Munnujan Sufian, the vacation meeting — the 9th one of the 1Oth parliament– was attended by other members of the committee: Minister for State Md. Mujibul Haq, Md. Israfil Alam, Chobi Biswas, Shirin Akhtar and Roksana Yasmin.
