A delegation of the parliamentary standing committee on Shipping Ministry left Dhaka last night to visit four foreign seaports aimed at acquiring knowledge about the overall operational system which can be applied here.
“A 12-member delegation led by Shipping Minister Shahjhan Khan will fly to Mauritius, Alexandria in Egypt, Los Angeles in the USA and New York seaports.
The team will oversee the infrastructure of the ports and various operational activities, cargo handling, labour management and strategies to protect port’s navigability.
The other members of the delegation are: chairman of concerned standing committee Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam Birutta, committee members- Mohammad Abdul Hye , M Abdul Latif, M Anowerul Azim Anar, Nurul Islam Sujon, Chittagong Port advisory council member Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) and local port committee member AJM Nasir Uddin, Chairman of Chittagong Port Real Admiral Nijamuddin Ahmed, among others.
